    DEFINITION
    The purpose of this position is to maintain the parks, city facilities, and equipment for the City of Neosho.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
    Reports to Parks & Recreation Director. Exercises no supervision.

    EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES—Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    1. Mows, weed eats, trims trees, remove debris, leaves, weeds, and limbs from parks. 
    2. Plants, water, and maintain city gardens.
    3. Cleans and maintains the city restrooms. 
    4. Installs and maintains facility machinery. 
    5. Performs construction and remodeling for city facilities such as hanging drywall, electrical, plumbing, cutting, hanging trim, painting, and other carpentry assignments. 
    6. Inspect downtown area around the square for cleanliness.
    7. Ensures that equipment, machinery, tools, and supplies are properly inventoried and maintained.
    8. Prepare pavilions and city parks for various scheduled events.
    9. Decorates the community for holidays.
    10. Provides traffic control during city parades and events.
    11. Prepares fields for sporting events.
    12. Performs custodial duties for city buildings and changes light bulbs.
    13. Performs maintenance for city swimming pool.
    14. Performs other duties as assigned. 

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Knowledge of:

    1. Basic maintenance procedures and safety.
    2. Landscaping techniques. 
    3. Equipment operation.

    Ability to: 

    1. Operate a large mower, tree trimming equipment, weed eaters, pull trailers, and other necessary equipment including hand and power tools.
    2. Adjust work schedule for emergency weather conditions.
    3. Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair for the area of work assigned.
    4. Operate a variety of vehicle and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.
    5. Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
    6. Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
    7. Follow all safety rules and regulations.

    Language Skills:                                            

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 

    Reasoning Ability:                                         

    • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions.  
    • Ability to make observations, communicate well with others both verbally and written, travel to various work locations, and operate assigned equipment and vehicles.
    • Coordinate multiple and complex goals simultaneously.
    • Make decisions on procedural and technical levels involving work of all subordinates.
    • Demonstrate excellent work ethic and integrity.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

    • High School Diploma or equivalent GED
    • Driver’s License

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Physical Demands 

    • Walking, sitting, standing, bending, and crouching for prolonged periods of time. 
    • Lifting or moving moderate to heavy weights.
    • Working under harsh weather conditions.
    • Must possess visual depth perception, hearing, and mobility to such a degree as to not compromise safety rules or the safety of self/others while working.

    Work Environment 

    Work is performed primarily in the outside environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, noises, precipitation, and extreme temperatures.

    Tools and Equipment:

    Tractor, trailers, tillers, chainsaws, sprayers, mowers, ladders, leaf blower, weed eaters, and a variety of power and hand tools.

    Training:

    • Continually participate in additional training related to job as requested by supervisor.
    • Ability to apply new techniques of staff training, knowledge of human behavior and behavior modification.

    Miscellaneous Requirements

    • Will be subject to background investigation.
    • Must successfully complete pre-employment substance abuse testing and physical.
    • Will be subject to random substance abuse testing.
