LIVE MUSIC TO FILL BIG SPRING PARK AS MARCH TO AUGUST OPENS FREE CONCERT SERIES

The annual Big Spring Park Free Concert Series kicks off April 24 thanks to the efforts of the Neosho Arts Council. The alt-country duo March to August will be performing from the park’s historic Grecian stage.

“We are so excited to bring another series of concerts to Neosho,” said Sarah Serio, president of Neosho Arts Council. “Our community has enjoyed music from this stage for almost a century now and we are happy to continue that tradition this spring.”

March to August is comprised of Derrick and Jodi Mears. They are known for storytelling lyrics and a roots driven style of music that blends Americana, alt-country, and bluegrass.

The second concert will see the return of Molly Healey to the series on May 21. Healey is known as a one-woman band that brings a whole orchestra with her due to her unique ability to blend looping music, live string instruments, and intimate vocals together.

“Last year rain caused us to move Molly’s concert inside but her skills and unique original sound were so vibrant we knew she needed to return and perform in the park,” Serio said. “We were very fortunate to be able to schedule her return to Neosho.”

The arts council will wrap up their series on June 12 with contemporary jazz musician Ralph Hepola and special guest John Strickler. Hepola has performed on recordings and productions that have been Pulitzer Prize, Grammy, and Tony Award winners and nominees. He was a member of Switzerland’s Basel Symphony Orchestra and The United States Army Band of Washington, D.C.

“These concerts are ideal for picking up a meal to-go at one of our downtown restaurants and enjoying a picnic in the park with live music,” Serio said.

The performance will begin at 6:30pm and last about an hour. The Grecian Stage is located on the south side of Big Spring Park (309 W. Spring Street) in Neosho. There is no cost to attend. Attendees should bring a lawn chair or blanket with them. The council will also be holding a sidewalk chalk fun draw during each concert.

“We hope everyone will join us for a relaxing evening of music.” Serio said. In case of rain the performance will move indoors.
