Free Event: Prairie Day, September 13th
DIAMOND, Mo. – Prairie Day, a free event, is planned for Saturday, September 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at George Washington Carver National Monument here.
Visitors are invited to learn about the life of George Washington Carver, who was born enslaved on the Moses Carver farm, and where he spent his first decade of life.
Knowledgeable staff and volunteers from local organizations will be on hand to demonstrate music, exhibits, and historic skills like cornmeal making, and basket weaving.
Held in conjunction with Gem City Days in Diamond, Missouri, Prairie Day commemorates George Washington Carver’s childhood environment through storytelling, music, interactive exhibits, and historic skills demonstrations.
Prairie Day is presented in partnership with the Carver Birthplace Association, and administered by the National Park Service, an agency of the Department of the Interior.
George Washington Carver National Monument preserves the birthplace and childhood home of George Washington Carver, scientist, educator, and humanitarian. The park is located two miles west of Diamond, Missouri, on Highway V, then ¼ mile south on Carver Road.
