The EMS Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality formative and summative education and training to students enrolled in Emergency Medical Services programs. This role involves teaching theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ensuring students are prepared for certification and real-world EMS scenarios.
Essential Job Duties
- Deliver engaging and evidence-based instruction in EMS courses (online, didactic, lab, and field settings).
- Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and hands-on scenarios aligned with state and national standards.
- Evaluate student performance through written exams, skills testing, and practical assessments.
- Conduct lectures, practical skills training, and simulations for EMS courses.
- Assist in the design and updating of course materials to meet state and local requirements.
- Ensure all training activities comply with regulatory standards and program requirements.
- Stay current with EMS practices and educational techniques through ongoing professional development.
- Participate in recruitment and promotional activities to attract new students to the EMS program.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to students throughout their educational journey.
- Maintain accurate student records, attendance, and documentation in accordance with institutional and accreditation requirements.

- Ability to plan, develop and implement all necessary policies and procedures to ensure that the counseling center follows ethical guidelines.

Education and Experience
- Current certification as a Paramedic (state and/or National Registry).
- EMS Instructor certification (Obtained within 6 months of hire).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of field experience in EMS.
- High school diploma or GED
- ACLS, BLS, PALS certification
- At least 1–2 years of instructional or curriculum development experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Canvas, learning management systems (LMS), and digital instructional tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in EMS, Education, or a related field.
- Experience with CoAEMSP accreditation and program management.
- Knowledge of instructional design principles and adult learning theory.
Position Supervised:
Working Environment
- May include evenings or weekends to accommodate course schedules.
- Work in classroom, lab, and occasionally in field or clinical environments.
- Some administrative work may be remote, or office based.
- Attend all required faculty and department meeting as required.
Physical:
- Generally sedentary work but will involve mobility within the campus and various sites.
- Light lifting and physical activities may be required occasionally.
- Input, access and distribute information using computers.
