    Position Summary
    The Director of Campus Safety and Security provides strategic leadership for all campus safety, security, and emergency management operations. This role oversees security personnel, emergency preparedness, environmental health and safety compliance, parking enforcement, and ensures adherence to federal and state regulations. The Director develops and implements comprehensive safety programs, manages budgets and resources, coordinates with law enforcement and emergency services, and supports the Incident Commander during critical events. This position is essential to fostering a safe, secure, and compliant campus environment. When the Director is winning, the campus community is trained and prepared to respond to safety concerns and campus is safe.
    Essential Job Duties

    • Develops and executes a Campus Safety Strategic Plan aligned with institutional goals.
    • Directs all aspects of campus safety including policy development, emergency management, emergency response, risk assessment, and training.
    • Ensure compliance with the Clery Act and maintains the Annual Security Report, Daily Crime Log, and Fire Safety Report.
    • Leads emergency management planning, including drills, tabletop exercises, and continuity planning.
    • Manages access control systems, surveillance technology, and fire safety inspections.
    • Conducts threat and risk assessments and participates in Behavior Intervention Team. 
    • Oversees parking enforcement programs.
    • Develops and monitors the departmental budget, including grant opportunities for safety initiatives.
    • Maintains 24/7 availability for emergency response and crisis management.
    • Collaborates with local emergency services agencies, safety organizations, and law enforcement agencies.
    • Hires, supervises, trains and oversees security officers at all campus locations.
    • Creates and delivers effective presentations on safety-related topics and emergency preparedness.
    • Ensures Clery Act (campus safety), OSHA (occupational safety), NFPA (fire safety), and Missouri statutes compliance and maintain accurate incident reporting logs.
    • Inspires trust and builds strong, courteous and cooperative relationships with internal and external partners.
    • Maintains reliable records and ensures accurate and timely documentation and reporting.
    • This position is an essential worker position and may be required to work during Campus Closures and Holidays. 
    • Fulfill any other duties which job-related circumstances may demand.
    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Bachelor’s degree in public administration/policy, emergency management, criminal justice, or closely related field.
    • Strong leadership, written and oral communication, and crisis management skills.
    • Expertise in public safety and security management.
    • Certifications or ability to obtain: ICS/NIMS, Clery Compliance Training, CPR/AED.
    • Must possess a valid Missouri driver's license and successfully pass a reference and background check.
    • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
    • Ability to work rotating shifts and maintain 24/7 on-call availability for emergencies.
    • Strong communication skills and works effectively with college employees, students, community agencies, emergency personnel, and the general public.
     
    Equipment/Software
    • Ability to operate a computer using Windows environment utilizing Microsoft Office 365
    • Ability to utilize SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive Maxient (reporting software), and safety camera software.
     
    Positions Supervised
    • Full-time and Part-time campus Security officers at all locations
     
    Working Environment
    • Indoor and outdoor activity, with some exposure to noise, dust, cleaning chemicals, and inclement weather.
    • Normal college working hours but adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work may be required including up to 12-hour shifts.
    • Travel to other instructional sites required.
    • Travel for professional development required.
