Position Summary
The Career & Technical Education (CTE) Advisor will work with faculty and staff by providing academic, career, and personal guidance to promote student success, persistence, and completion. Assist students with identifying career goals, developing a plan of study, educational plans, and connecting with employment or transfer opportunities aligned with their technical field of study. The CTE advisor will direct day-to-day student advising activities for post-secondary career and technical education students, support evaluation, create advising guides/training materials, support advisors throughout the campus community, and work with the CTE Leadership Team to develop and implement new practices, procedures, and innovative pathways. This position will also work closely with secondary CTE programs, faculty, and staff on recruitment and assist in bridging the gap between the high school classroom to college CTE programs. This position will provide advising support for all CTE majors and is primarily housed on the Neosho campus.
Essential Job Duties- Provide academic, career, social/personal, financial, and transfer advising to career and technical education students.
- Serve as the CTE point of contact for Admissions, Records, Financial Aid, and other Student Affairs staff to meet the needs of students.
- Monitor advisee success and help in the development of students’ educational goals.
- Help coordinate CTE student recruitment, tours, and activities.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote student success initiatives and program visibility.
- Serve as liaison between the college, high schools, and community organizations to support CTE pipelines.
- Participate in campus events, BILT meetings, and community engagement activities.
- Collaborate with the Student Affairs offices regarding Academic Alert System.
- Work with the Accessibility Office to identify and address the needs of students with disabilities.
- Work closely with other CTE staff to recruit students and provide support to prospective students.
- Work closely with CTE Data Specialist to collect, track and report certification and placement data.
- Collaborate with regional technical centers in promoting the Career Pathways initiative – promoting CTE careers as a viable and successful career path.
- Maintain accurate advising records and student data in accordance with college policies.
- Assist with the coordination of National Technical Honor Society events.
- Participate in College functions where appropriate.
- Complete other duties as assigned to meet the mission of the College.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Associate’s Degree
- Well-developed interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, faculty, other professionals, and the public.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a part of a team.
- Ability to use technology for professional productivity and effectiveness.
- Knowledge of career and technical education programs, workforce trends, and academic advising principles.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, career development, or related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in an educational, advising, or community college setting.
- Experience advising students in CTE programs or at the college level.
- Experience with both transfer-directed and employment-oriented learners.
Working Environment- Office environment with frequent student interaction and interruptions.
- Both indoors in a normal classroom environment and outdoors on a job site with exposure to temperature changes, noise, dust or chemicals.
- Normal college working hours but adjustment of hours involving evening and/or weekend work may be required from time to time.
- A neat appearance and appropriate businesslike apparel are required.
