Newtonia Battlefields Protection Association announces special events to be held at the Ritchey Mansion in Newtonia, MO on Saturday, September 24. The group will have the Ritchey Mansion open for tours from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Included this year will be a Civil War encampment set up by Civil War re-enactors. A new event this year will be a Provost Marshal’s Office set up on the grounds with the Provost Marshal recreating his duties as a law enforcement officer during the Civil War. There will also be a special presentation about Native Americans and their involvement in the Civil War.
Blacksmiths will be set up on the grounds of the Ritchey Mansion demonstrating blacksmithing skills. They will also have handcrafted items for sale and will be doing repairs on site.
Local historian and author, Larry Wood, will have a book signing throughout the day. He is the author of The Two Civil War Battles of Newtonia, as well as his latest books, Bushwhacker Belles and Wicked Women of Missouri.
All of these events are part of the Newtonia Fall Festival scheduled for Saturday, September 24. Come and enjoy a step back into our history.
