Newton County Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run 2021: Date: May 25, 2021 Time: 1:00 p.m.
The Neosho Police Department, Newton County Sheriff’s Department, the Neosho Fire Department, Missouri Highway Patrol, Troop D, Missouri Probation & Parole District #33, the Neosho R-5 School District and the residents of the city of Neosho, Missouri, are scheduled to host the Newton County Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, for the first time in over a decade. Over 97,000 law enforcement Officers nationwide, assist Special Olympic athletes, to carry the “Flame of Hope”. This Flame symbolizes courage and the celebration of diversity, uniting ours and surrounding communities around the nation and globe. Newton County alone, has nearly 140 local athletes, that train each year to compete in Special Olympic events. Newton County law enforcement and the Neosho School District recognize the need to celebrate and recognize these phenomenal athletes. On May 25th, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. the Special Olympics Torch will be handed over from our Jasper County friends in law enforcement. The Newton County portion of the run, will begin at the Neosho Junior High, onto Carver Elementary, then the Neosho Middle School, with a big finish at the Neosho High School. Local businesses will be notified of the event, to be curbside on the designated route, to cheer on and celebrate the Newton County athletes as they carry the Torch towards its next destination.
