Neosho Arts Council is pleased to present the 25th Anniversary Thomas Hart Benton Art Competition and Exhibition. Works will be displayed at Neosho Arts Council’s Virtual Big Spring Gallery. This year’s competition will be completely virtual in accordance with Neosho Arts Council’s commitment to safety in the time of COVID-19.
Artists are eligible to enter in either the "Emerging" category or "Professional" category. The "Emerging" category is for artists who are students or who are not represented by galleries or have not held professional exhibitions. The "Professional" category is open to all artists. Emerging artists who win First Place or Best of Show previously in this competition will be considered Professional Division entrants thereafter. All entries must be original works by the artist, not previously entered in this competition or shown at the Big Spring Gallery, and completed in the past three years.
Open to artists 18 years of age and older | Emerging or Professional
Media: Open to original 2D works including painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, pastels, etc. No photography, digital works, giclees, high relief works, or 3D works.
2020 JUDGE JORDAN SEABERRY
Judge: Jordan Seaberry is a painter, organizer, legislative advocate, and educator. Born and raised on the Southside of Chicago, Jordan came to Providence to attend Rhode Island School of Design. Alongside his art, he built a career as a grassroots organizer, helping to fight and pass multiple criminal justice reform milestones, including Probation Reform, the ‘Unshackling Pregnant Prisoners’ Bill, and laying the groundwork for the “Ban the Box” movement in Rhode Island.
Jordan serves as Co-Director of the U.S. Department of Arts and Culture, a people-powered agency, and most recently worked as the Director of Public Policy at the Nonviolence Institute. He serves as the Community Leader Fellow at Roger Williams University School of Law.
Jordan maintains a painting studio in Providence, RI. His work has been exhibited nationally at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, AR; RISD Museum, Providence, RI; Zevitas Marcus Gallery, Los Angeles, CA; Marwen Art Foundation, Chicago, IL; and Brown University, Providence, RI. His work is included in the RISD Museum Collection. He has been awarded the Maccoll Johnson Arts Fellowship, Anderson Ranch Arts Center Fellowship, and was a grant recipient from the Rhode Island State Council of the Arts.

- Non-Members (online only): $10.00 for one entry, $15.00 for two entries, $20.00 for three entries.
Registration for this virtual exhibition is online only. There are no in person options available.

Requirements:
- The exhibit is open to all artists 18 years of age or older, amateur and professional. All entries must be original works by the artist, not previously entered in this competition or shown at the Big Spring Gallery, and completed in the past three years.
- No Diptychs or Triptychs
- All work must be for sale with a NO COMMISSION collected by the Neosho Arts Council.
- All sales will be directed to the artists directly.
- The Neosho Arts Council reserves the right to refuse an accepted work because of unacceptable presentation.
- All work must be family friendly: no explicit nudity or pornography

Crop all images to the art only (please remove all frames and backgrounds).

File Name: All photos should be saved and uploaded using the following format for naming: Last_First_Title.jpg
If you do not want to or are unable to edit images to the guidelines above Neosho Arts Council is offering to edit them for you for an additional $10 flat fee. Just upload the image you have as is and we will do the rest! Then check "Edit All My Photos" and the appropriate entry level at checkout!
