Crowder College History Symposium Presents: Dr. Michael Powers
The Crowder College History Symposium presents Dr. Michael Powers! His lecture will continue the History Symposium series of speakers on October 24 at 6pm in the Wright Conference Center (601 Laclede Ave., Neosho, MO 64850).
Dr. Powers Lecture Topic: "Burke and Capitán Imboden: The Workings of a Community of Confederate Veterans in Central America." His talk will examine the ways former Confederates living in Honduras in the late 19th century participated in coup d'états and political maneuverings while also striving to become leading industrialists. While filibusters and banana companies have been widely studied, Dr. Powers sheds light on a more unexplored yet fascinating era wherein Southerners attempted to form a community as capitalist politicos in the rough and tumble world of Central America.
