Position Summary
The AEL North Coordinator serves as part of the Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) team and works 40 hours per week year-round. This position supports the academic and career advancement of adult learners by implementing research based instructional practices, coordinating instructional services across designated counties and guiding staff to align instruction with College and Career Readiness Standards through AEL, ELL and IET instruction.
The coordinator provides leadership in curriculum development, instructor support, student advocacy, community outreach, and compliance with state AEL requirements. Duties include regular travel within Cedar, Vernon, Bates, Dade, and St. Clair Counties. Some evening hours are required. Current home class sites include Nevada, El Dorado Springs, and Stockton.
Essential Job Duties
- Maintain current knowledge of AEL program requirements, goals, and instructional methods.
- Deliver effective instruction for AEL, ELL, and IET classes using contemporary and technology enhanced formats.
- Foster a positive, student-centered learning environment that supports diverse learning styles and backgrounds.
- Use motivational strategies to promote student engagement, persistence, and success.
- Guide students in identifying learning goals and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Refer students to appropriate college and community resources.
- Assess students and document attendance and progress according to AEL requirements.
- Support student transitions to college credit, noncredit programs, workforce training, and community resources.
- Lead the development, adaptation, and implementation of AEL curriculum.
- Assist with marketing, recruiting, and community outreach for AEL services
- Assist with training and evaluating instructors.
- Attend AEL Leadership Zoom meetings at least once a month.
- Conduct monthly visits to AEL program for class sites and partnering locations.
- Compile and submit accurate reports of student outcomes and learning gains.
- Use program data to inform continuous improvement efforts.
- Maintain professional conduct and ethics; serve on committees as assigned.
- Participate in required state and local staff development and training.
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and partner organizations.
- Build and maintain collaborations with staff, administrators, and community partners.
- Perform any additional duties assigned to meet job-related needs.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Requires Adult Education and Literacy Certification or ability to obtain within three months of hire date. The virtual Pre-Certification Workshop and Beginning Teacher Assistance Program one-day sessions are offered on day specific days once a month. You only need to attend each session once.
- Must pass background check.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with college personnel, students, and external college contacts.
Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Teaching experience preferred.
Information Technology Abilities
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, projectors, and telephones.
- Ability to use Missouri AEL data system.
- Ability to use online platforms for instruction

Working Environment
