NACC Welcomes New Teachers to the Neosho Area with an Exciting Tour and Luncheon

Neosho, MO. August 5, 2019 – The Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 52nd Annual New Teacher Tour, presented in partnership with Missouri Walnut, on Wednesday, August 7th, 2019.  All teachers new to the Neosho School District, Crowder College, Neosho Christian Schools, and Ozark Christian Schools are invited to participate.

Following a brief welcome and introductions at the Neosho Administration Building, the teachers will board 2 school buses and began the tour of Neosho. Tour guides, Dr. Roy Shaver and Tim Booyer, will entertain and enlighten teachers about the many things that Neosho has to offer to the community. Stops will be made along the way at the Newton County Historical Park, Neosho National Fish Hatchery, Newton County Courthouse, Neosho-Newton County Library, and Neosho Freeman Family YMCA. The group will then enjoy lunch served on the campus of Crowder College sponsored by Arvest Bank, Community Bank & Trust, Family Dentistry of Neosho, First Community Bank, Four States Dental Care, Harris Insurance Agency, Lyerla Heating & Air, Mitchell's Drug Stores, Scholastic, Spring Hill Assisted Living, Southwest Missouri Bank, and US Bank.

Lunch programming includes a warm welcome from Crowder College representatives as well as the #TeachNeosho portion of the day where local businesses will have 60 seconds to share how they can partner with new educators and the community. This year, guest speaker TeeJay "Bad Newz" Britton will close out the afternoon. Britton is a Pro MMA Fighter out of Joplin, Missouri and the #18th ranked Pro Men’s Featherweight in Kansas & Missouri. Britton has strong ties to Southwest Missouri as a former Missouri Southern Lion as well as a youth minister. He uses his past struggles as a way to inspire others and hopes to lead troubled youth out of the darkness and into a brighter place.

“The purpose of the New Teacher Tour is to welcome the new teachers and to help familiarize them with our community. And each year is even bigger than the last!” exclaimed Ashley Siler, Director of Communication & Membership Development at the Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce. “Many of these teachers are not only new to the district but new to Neosho as well. By participating in the tour, they will gain useful information about the history of Neosho as well as local resources that will help them both in and out of the classroom.”

Each new educator will receive a swag bag full of gifts and promotional items sponsored by Missouri Walnut and made possible by over 25 local businesses including gift cards, blankets, umbrellas, notepads, personal care items, sweet treats and more. Educators will also receive an additional gift bag from Scholastic full of books and other items that can be used in their classrooms. “Year after year, this is a great event that participants really enjoy. It is a unique event that gives new teachers a chance to get to know their new colleagues, and it’s a nice way to welcome educators to our community. We love to showcase all the things that make Neosho such a great place to live, work, and play.” added Siler.
