\n\nBackground: \;A brand new 4\,266-square-foot addition to Freeman Neosho Physician Group building\, located across from Freeman Neosho Hospital\, has been completed in less than five months&rsquo\; time.
\n\nThe $1.2 million expansion provides Neosho and the surrounding communities with convenient access to physicians and medical services. It will increase clinic and office space\, including the addition of 14 examination rooms\, and will serve as the academic center for the Family Medicine Residency Freeman currently operates in affiliation with Kansas City University of Medicine.
\n\n&ldquo\;Freeman Neosho Hospital and Physicians Group are thrilled to serve as the rural tract location for Kansas City University&rsquo\;s Family Medicine Residency Clinic\,&rdquo\; said Renee Denton\, Freeman Neosho Hospital&rsquo\;s Chief Operating Officer. &ldquo\;It is infrequent that a full residency clinic is available to a rural location\, so to have this clinic available in Neosho will be extremely beneficial and increase access to medical care right here at home.&rdquo\;
\n\nThe Family Medicine Residency Clinic\, which provides care for the entire family through every stage of life\, adds two new resident physicians each year for three-year clinical stints. Typically\, these doctors in training develop skills in laboratory work\, medical procedures and patient care. Overseen by Family Medicine Residency Program Director Dr. Barbara Miller\, the program&rsquo\;s first two residents\, Dr. Omar Rehman and Dr. Terrance Kelly\, began accepting patients at the clinic in 2022. This summer\, Dr. Brandyce Elia and Dr. Robert Morris joined the team. Two more doctors will come aboard in mid-2024. The program in Neosho focuses on training physicians to work in rural settings far away from extensive medical facilities in larger cities.
\n\nIn addition to the 14 new examination rooms\, the expansion also features two physician offices\, three support staff workstations for the Family Medicine Residency Clinic\, a consultation area and a small laboratory.
