Crowder College – 50th Anniversary Celebration

 YMCA Hosts Staff Social Sampler

The Neosho Freeman Family YMCA will host their first Staff Social Sampler on Thursday, April 4th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the home of Shannon and Missy Christal, located at 18080 Hereford, Neosho.  Food and drinks will be provided by the YMCA staff to help raise funds for the 2013 Strong Kids Campaign.  The Sampler is a casual and come and go event and the Y encourages adults 21 and up to attend.  Ticket prices are $25 a person and can be purchased at the Y or on the Y’s website www.ymcaswmo.org under upcoming events.

 May Day Mom

The 25th Annual May Day Mom Contest is an essay contest open to all Neosho R-5 2nd & 3rd graders.  The winner and her child will be honored the Friday before Mother’s Day.  They will be escorted around town in a chauffeur-driven limousine provided by Clark Funeral Home to collect their prizes.  Businesses who would like to participate by donating a gift for this year’s May Day Mom should complete and return a response form or call the Chamber by April 24th.  Participating merchants to date are:  Beck Floral & Gifts, Dr. Fly’s Salon, McDonalds of Neosho, Mitchell’s Downtown Drug Store, Neosho Beauty College, Neosho Gifts Etcetera, Peking Garden, Sexton Photography & Tuxedos & The News-Dispatch, Spee Dee Lube, and WXY Sporting Goods.

 Neosho National Fish Hatchery Open House

The Neosho National Fish Hatchery will host their annual Open House on Sunday, April 21st from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  Cookies and coffee will be served at 9:00 a.m. and hot dogs served at noon.  The Missouri Conservation Department will be giving away free trees.  Live music will be provided along with conservation and naturalist exhibitors such as reptiles, bee charmers, herbalists, etc.  

 Dogwood Tour

Neosho’s Dogwood Tour will be Sunday, April 21stTour maps and dogwood information will be available at the Rotary tent, at the Neosho High School from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

 R-5 Foundation Banquet

The Neosho Arts Council invites you to their Herman Jaeger Festival April 26th – May 5th.  There will be a lot of activities happening!  The “Herman Jaeger, Master of the Vineyard” Exhibit will be at The Civic from April 26th – May 4th from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. – free and open to the public.  The 4th Annual ArtSquared Spring Art Show & Sale will be Friday, May 3rd from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. & Saturday, May 4th from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at The CivicBoulevard Bank is hosting the Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest on Saturday, May 4th from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  There will be a Jaegerfest Music Celebration on Saturday, May 4th at 7:00 p.m. at The Civic.     

 Art in the Park

The George Washington Carver National Monument will host Art in the Park on Saturday, April 27th from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Artists will conduct art workshops throughout the day.  A “budding artists” area will feature natural dyes, painting color swatches and other children’s art activities.  At 11:00 a.m. guest artist Lowell Davis from Carthage will provide a special presentation.  Plan to attend this fun-filled day and be inspired by the beauty of nature captured in the artwork.

 4th Annual Evening of Jazz

Crowder College Foundation will host an Evening of Jazz on Tuesday, April 30th at The Civic.  6:00 p.m. – pre-event mixer; 6:30 p.m. – performances by Neosho High and McDonald County High Jazz Bands, 7:15 p.m. – Jazz performance by Crowder Jazz Orchestra.  Table seating is available for the pre-event mixer complete with wine, hors d’oeuvres and floor seating during the concert.  Each table seats 8 and is available for $250 (or $30 per seat).  General admission for balcony seating is $5.  For more information, call 455-5646 or foundation@crowder.edu

 Family Fun Fest

The Neosho Freeman Family YMCA is hosting its first ever Family Fun Fest on Thursday, May 2nd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Y, located at 4701 Chouteau.  This is a free community event that will also take place the same night as their Women’s Only 5K race.  The Y is looking for local businesses to provide an active game or booth to run, volunteers to work the Y’s games or to donate food such as hotdogs or hamburgers.  If you are interested in providing a game, please email Johanna Rowe, johannarowe@crowder.edu no later than Friday, April 12th

The Newton County Health Department & the Alliance of Southwest Missouri will hold the annual “Safe Kids Day” event on Friday, May 3rd from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on the Health Department parking lot at 812 W. Harmony.  Parents will be able to get their children’s fingerprints & a photo id.  There will be safety demonstrations, kid’s games, activities and lots of prizes & freebies.  A $1.00 donation is requested for the photo id but there is no charge for most of the activities.  Any business or organization that would like to participate may call the Newton County Health Department at 451-3743.

 Car & Bike Cruise Night

Our Downtown Events Committee has scheduled their 6th Annual Car & Bike Cruise Night to be held on Saturday, May 4th from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Neosho’s Historic Downtown Square.  There will be cars, bikes, music, food and fun for all!  There is no registration fee. 

 Neosho R-5 School District Character Education Program

The April Character Word for the Neosho R-5 School District Character Word of the Month is:  “Perseverance” – Continuing to do the right thing even though others may not; to press toward a goal even in difficult times.  Please incorporate this in your business and place it on your marquee.  Let’s show our Wildcat support!!

 Classical Music Live

Crowder College presents Classical Music Live on Tuesday, March 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Elsie Plaster Community Center Auditorium.  This concert will feature a cello sonata of Grieg, a violin sonata of Franck, and a Mendelssohn Piano Trio.  The event is free and open to the public!  A reception in honor of Mr. R.W. “Bob Anderson” will be held after the performance.  Anderson was one of the first to conceive the idea of turning a military installation into a community college.

 Neosho Sprint Triathlon

 YMCA Hosts Breakfast with the Bunny

The Neosho Freeman Family YMCA will host a Breakfast with the Bunny on Saturday, March 30th from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. at the YMCA.  Children ages newborn to 12 years old can join in the fun.  Breakfast is $1 per person and includes muffins, fruit, juice or milk.  The YMCA encourages parents to bring their cameras to take pictures with the bunny and after breakfast, children may join in the Crowder Easter Egg Hunt.  For more information, call 455-9999.

Neosho’s 21st Annual Business & Industry Review

Neosho’s Business & Industry Review is this Friday and Saturday, March 15th & 16th at the Neosho High School Cafeteria!  This is a great opportunity to come and see what area businesses have to offer and visit one-on-one with the business owners and their employees!

 Methodist Men’s Potato Soup Benefit

Neosho United Methodist Men will host their annual potato soup fundraiser on Friday, March 15th in their church basement at 224 S. Wood.  Lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and dinner from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  The meal includes their famous potato soup, a dessert and drink.  Adults are $4.00 each and children are $2.00 each with take- outs and deliveries are available.  For more information, contact the church office at 451-2310.  Proceeds from this fundraiser help fund their ministries in the church and the community.  They greatly appreciate your support!

 American Legion Auxiliary – Women Veterans Tea

 Quarterly Luncheon

March’s Quarterly Luncheon is scheduled for Thursday, March 21st at noon at The Civic.  Our program will be “Newton County Work Ready Community Initiative”.  Come learn more about this initiative, how it will impact employers and the workforce, education and community and economic development benefits!  Cost is $10.00 per person.  RSVP to the Chamber Office by Tuesday, March 19th!

 Teen Challenge of the Four States – 4th Annual Business & Professional Person’s Breakfast

Teen Challenge of the Four States invites all chamber members to their 4th Annual Business & Professional Person’s Breakfast on Tuesday, March 5th at 7:30 a.m. at their campus at 18527 E.  City-County Map

Methodist Men’s Potato Soup Benefit

Neosho United Methodist Men will host their annual potato soup fundraiser on Friday, March 15th in their church basement at 224 S. Wood.  Lunch will be served from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and dinner from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.  The meal includes their famous potato soup, a dessert and drink.  Adults are $4.00 each and children are $2.00 each with take- outs and deliveries are available.  For more information, contact the church office at 451-2310.  Proceeds from this fundraiser help fund their ministries in the church and the community.  They greatly appreciate your support!

 American Legion Auxiliary – Women Veterans Tea

The Joplin Chamber will host an “Eggs & Issues” Legislative Brunch on Friday, March 22nd at 10:15 a.m. at the Continental Banquet & Catering Services at 2728 N. Range Line Rd. – Joplin. 

 Neosho Sprint Triathlon

Neosho Sprint Triathlon to benefit Faithful Friends Animal Advocates, sponsored by Freeman Health System and Prime Care Family Medicine, Dr. Craig Pendergrass will be held on Saturday, March 30th at 8:00 a.m.  Swim 300 yards, Bike 13.5 miles, Run 3.1 miles.  For registration, go to https://www.earlysignup.com/neosho.  If you would like to volunteer, sponsor or have additional questions, please email ffaarace@cableone.net.

 Art in the Park

The George Washington Carver National Monument will host Art in the Park on Saturday, April 27th from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Artists will conduct art workshops throughout the day.  A “budding artists” area will feature natural dyes, painting color swatches and other children’s art activities.  At 11:00 a.m. guest artist Lowell Davis from Carthage will provide a special presentation.  Plan to attend this fun-filled day and be inspired by the beauty of nature captured in the artwork.

 Safe Kids Day

The Newton County Health Department & the Alliance of Southwest Missouri will hold the annual “Safe Kids Day” event on Friday, May 3rd from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on the Health Department parking lot at 812 W. Harmony.  Parents will be able to get their children’s fingerprints & a photo id.  There will be safety demonstrations, kid’s games, activities and lots of prizes & freebies.  A $1.00 donation is requested for the photo id but there is no charge for most of the activities.  Any business or organization that would like to participate may call the Newton County Health Department at 451-3743.
