YMCA Hosts Staff Social Sampler
The Neosho Freeman Family YMCA will host their first Staff Social Sampler on Thursday, April 4th from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the home of Shannon and Missy Christal, located at 18080 Hereford, Neosho. Food and drinks will be provided by the YMCA staff to help raise funds for the 2013 Strong Kids Campaign. The Sampler is a casual and come and go event and the Y encourages adults 21 and up to attend. Ticket prices are $25 a person and can be purchased at the Y or on the Y’s website www.ymcaswmo.org under upcoming events.
May Day Mom
The 25th Annual May Day Mom Contest is an essay contest open to all Neosho R-5 2nd & 3rd graders. The winner and her child will be honored the Friday before Mother’s Day. They will be escorted around town in a chauffeur-driven limousine provided by Clark Funeral Home to collect their prizes. Businesses who would like to participate by donating a gift for this year’s May Day Mom should complete and return a response form or call the Chamber by April 24th. Participating merchants to date are: Beck Floral & Gifts, Dr. Fly’s Salon, McDonalds of Neosho, Mitchell’s Downtown Drug Store, Neosho Beauty College, Neosho Gifts Etcetera, Peking Garden, Sexton Photography & Tuxedos & The News-Dispatch, Spee Dee Lube, and WXY Sporting Goods.

Neosho National Fish Hatchery Open House
The Neosho National Fish Hatchery will host their annual Open House on Sunday, April 21st from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Cookies and coffee will be served at 9:00 a.m. and hot dogs served at noon. The Missouri Conservation Department will be giving away free trees. Live music will be provided along with conservation and naturalist exhibitors such as reptiles, bee charmers, herbalists, etc.

R-5 Foundation Banquet
The Neosho R-5 School District Charitable Foundation’s Excellence in Education Banquet will be held on Thursday, April 25th at 6:30 p.m. at the Neosho High School Cafeteria. Art in the Park
The George Washington Carver National Monument will host Art in the Park on Saturday, April 27th from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Artists will conduct art workshops throughout the day. A “budding artists” area will feature natural dyes, painting color swatches and other children’s art activities. At 11:00 a.m. guest artist Lowell Davis from Carthage will provide a special presentation. Plan to attend this fun-filled day and be inspired by the beauty of nature captured in the artwork.
4th Annual Evening of Jazz
Crowder College Foundation will host an Evening of Jazz on Tuesday, April 30th at The Civic. 6:00 p.m. – pre-event mixer; 6:30 p.m. – performances by Neosho High and McDonald County High Jazz Bands, 7:15 p.m. – Jazz performance by Crowder Jazz Orchestra. Table seating is available for the pre-event mixer complete with wine, hors d’oeuvres and floor seating during the concert. Each table seats 8 and is available for $250 (or $30 per seat). Family Fun Fest
The Neosho Freeman Family YMCA is hosting its first ever Family Fun Fest on Thursday, May 2nd from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Y, located at 4701 Chouteau. This is a free community event that will also take place the same night as their Women’s Only 5K race. The Y is looking for local businesses to provide an active game or booth to run, volunteers to work the Y’s games or to donate food such as hotdogs or hamburgers. Safe Kids Day
The Newton County Health Department & the Alliance of Southwest Missouri will hold the annual “Safe Kids Day” event on Friday, May 3rd from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on the Health Department parking lot at 812 W. Harmony. Parents will be able to get their children’s fingerprints & a photo id. There will be safety demonstrations, kid’s games, activities and lots of prizes & freebies. A $1.00 donation is requested for the photo id but there is no charge for most of the activities. Car & Bike Cruise Night
Our Downtown Events Committee has scheduled their 6th Annual Car & Bike Cruise Night to be held on Saturday, May 4th from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Neosho’s Historic Downtown Square. There will be cars, bikes, music, food and fun for all! There is no registration fee.
